About California tides

Mixed semidiurnal tides — two unequal highs and two unequal lows a day — with ranges growing as you head north. Harbor entrances feel the swell as much as the tide.

California has 193 NOAA tide stations — 66 reference stations whose predictions come from harmonic analysis of observations there, and 127 subordinate stations calculated from them. The biggest tidal range in the state is at Gold Street Bridge, Alviso Slough — 9.3 ft between mean higher high water and mean lower low water.
